This year, we supported the students of the team KA-RaceIng (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)) in building their vehicles for the Formula Student competition again. This time, however, we didn’t supply parts for the combustion car, but for the electric and autonomous version of the race car.
Our tool shop has manufactured milled parts for this purpose. These are special housing parts that are used to hold the rotor bearings in the electric motor and at the same time connect the motor to the gearbox (2-stage planetary gearbox).
The parts were milled from high-strength aluminum, and dimensions and tolerances in the hundredths of a millimeter range had to be maintained. A fine achievement by tmax tool making!
☹ Unfortunately, the Formula Student competition has been cancelled for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic! Therefore, KIT students won’t be able to drive the new cars in 2020. But they are preparing for the next season with full commitment! We hope you continue to have fun tinkering and building!
