A large proportion of fires in construction equipment, start in the engine compartment. The main cause is the high surface temperature of components such as turbochargers, manifolds and exhaust tracts, which can reach up to 750 °C.
Studies recommend minimizing the potential risks as early as the machine designing stage. Thermal insulation of hot surfaces is particularly suitable for this purpose. Additionally, it is suggested to keep hydraulic and electrical lines safely away from heat sources and from each other. Prevention proves to be the best measure because a prevented fire does not need to be extinguished.
