Thermamax performs crash test on battery case.

With the newly developed housing for lithium-ion systems, Thermamax is making an important contribution to the operational safety of batteries. An important feature of the tmax battery case is crash safety. An in-house drop test provided important data for the integration of safety features in the development process.

The Tmax battery housing has been designed to provide maximum safety in the event of an accident. It is crash-proof, for example it minimizes mechanical deformation (e.g., in the event of collisions) and thus reduces the risk of possible electrical short circuits that can lead to fires.

In order to integrate the safety features into the development process, a computer model of the battery housing was created and simulated in the Thermamax simulation department using CAE.

Thermamax conducted a crash test in its own test laboratory, with the aim of verifying the simulation. The drop test was intended to investigate the behavior of the case under crash loads.

The test provided empirical values that served as the basis for further calculations in the computer model as verification. This methodology ensures that resilient safety properties are integrated into product development from the outset.
